본 표준은 다양한 P2P 네트워크에 적용될 수 있는 일반적인 보안 구조 모델을 기술한다. 이러한 구조 모델을 토대로 본 표준은 일반적 P2P망을 위한 기본 오퍼레이션을 정의하며, 이들　오퍼레이션은 X.1161에서 정의한 보안 요구사항을　토대로 한다．
본 표준은 먼저 오버레이 네트워크의 하나인 P2P망을 대상으로 오버레이 네트워크의 개념적 구조를 기술하고, P2P 오버레이층과 전달층과의 관계를 나타내는 P2P 보안 구조를 정의하며, X.1161 표준에서 정의한 보안 요구사항에 기반하여 8 종류의 오퍼레이션 즉, 가입, 탈퇴, 탐색, 채팅, 루팅, 삽입 및 검색, 변경 및 삭제, 멀티캐스팅을 정의한다.

This standard defines a general and common security-related architectural reference model and operations that can be applied to various P2P networks. It defines the primitive operations based on ITU-T X.1161.(Framework for secure peer-to-peer communications)
This standard describes the conceptual architecture focused on a specific type of overlay network, namely P2P network, and it defines P2P security architecture expressed the relationship between P2P overlay stratum and transportation one. This standard describes 8 primitive operations such as join, leave, search, chat, routing, Insertion and retrieval, update and delete, Multicasting, and explains what types of operations is related to the security requirements defined in X.1161.
