The FIDO U2F framework was designed to be able to support multiple Authenticator form factors. The standard describes the communication protocol with Authenticators over Bluetooth including both Basic Rate Enhanced Data Rate (BR/EDR) and Bluetooth Smart (refered to in the standard as Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE). The standard describes the BLE standard of the FIDO U2F.
