본 표준은 국가지리정보에 대한 품질확보 및 품질평가를 지원하기 위해 지리공간정보의 품질 구성요소와 이를 평가하는 공통된 품질평가과정과 기준을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
아울러 향후 다양한 지리정보수요증대와 더불어 적절한 지리데이터셋의 선택, 공유, 교환 및 사용 도모를 위하여 품질정보를 체계화하고자 한다. 또한 보다 신뢰성 높은 품질정보확보를 위한 품질평가과정의 표준화 및 품질평가결과보고의 표준화를 통한 품질정보 제공하는데 있어 편의성을 도모하고자 한다.

영문 내용요약

The purpose of this standard is to provide principles to describe the quality elements for geographic information and evaluation criteria to determine and report quality information.
As sharing of geographic datasets are increasing, the datasets will be widely interchanged and used for users’purposes rather than producers’ones. Quality information for available geographic datasets is vital in the process of selecting a dataset because the value of data is directly related to the quality. The purpose of describing the quality of geographic information is to facilitate the selection of the geographic dataset which can be best suited to application needs or requirements. Complete descriptions and consistent evaluation procedures of the quality of a dataset will encourage users to share, interchange and use more appropriate geographic datasets.
