This standard provides detailed specifications for the GPON transmission convergence layer that transmits various data services (e.g., Ethernet, TDM, SDH, IP, MPLS) between the service network interface (SNI) and the user network interface in a gigabit passive optical network (GPON). This standard mainly presents ONU activation methods and procedures to provide time-sharing transmission between OLT and ONUs, including encapsulation structure and transmission method of various service data, GTC transmission frame structure, alarm and performance monitoring parameters, and data encryption. and key exchange procedures, forward error correction in a downstream and upstream, and OMCI transmission methods. Additionally, appendices include implementation guide, PON-ID maintenance, new PLOAM message, user traffic delivery method through GEM channel, OLT activation procedure overview, ONU authentication method, etc. In this standard revision, new ONU power management and GEM header error control decoding were added.
