본 표준은 H.323 네트워크에서 호 유지 부가서비스를 위한 절차와 신호 프로토콜을 정의한다. SS-HOLD는 사용자 A가 사용자 B에게 유지 조건을 주고 다시 사용자를 불러낼 수 있는 서비스를 가능하도록 한다. 호가 유지되는 동안에 사용자 B는 음악이나 비디오가 제공될 수 있다. 호 유지를 하고 있는 사용자 A는 사용자B가 대기하고 있는 동안에 다른 동작을 취할 수 있으며 이 표준은 H.450.1표준에서 정의한 H.323 부가서비스의 지원을 위한 일반 기능 프로토콜을 사용하기 위한 표준이다. 표준의 절차와 신호 프로토콜은 ISO/IEC 13865 and 13869에 정의한 호전환 부가서비스에 따른다.

This Supplementary Service describes the procedures and the signalling protocol for the Call Hold supplementary service in H.323 (Packet Based Multimedia Communications Systems) networks.
SS-HOLD enables the Served (Holding) User A to put User B (with whom User A has an active call) into a hold condition (Held User) and subsequently to retrieve that User again. During this hold condition, User B may be provided with music and/or video on hold. The Served (Holding) User A may perform other actions while User B is being held.The call between User A and User B has to be in the active state before SS-HOLD may be invoked.
