L1 VPN is a new service being created by combining IP control and photonic technologies. It provides super broadband dynamic networking services to large-scale users, such as Internet service providers (ISPs), by treating a carrier’s optical network as multiple virtual optical networks.
This Recommendation addresses service features of L1 VPN, service requirements and service architecture elements. In addition, this Recommendation describes several scenarios where the merits of L1 VPN are well expected. Service definition and its reference model are addressed and several scenarios such as multi-service backbone, carrier’s carrier and L1 resource trading are proposed as a deployment of L1 VPN service. Requirement for L1 VPN, as well as architectural element is described in the aspect of C-plane and U-plane. |
