This standard is to provide the guideline of implementing and using the ITU-R 1371-4 Annex 5 recommendation. This guidelines describe the overview of Purpose and scope of AIS Application-Specific Messages, ASMs in use with e-Navigation, International ASMs, and Regional ASMs. Also they recommend the operational aspects which are ‘when to use and why’ and the decision-making process and technical aspects which are quality control and VDL aspect.
