Focusing on existing and evolving underwater communication standards and draft specifications, this standard defines key terminology across the following technological domains: communication frequency bands, underwater communication media and their physical properties, components and nodes of underwater communication networks, underwater communication systems and networking architectures, interoperability mechanisms and associated devices, network addressing schemes, communication protocols and layering models, environmental and operational testing of underwater communication devices, low-frequency (LF) underwater communication and magnetic field-based communication, as well as relevant international organizations and regulatory conventions.
