¿µ¹®³»¿ë¿ä¾à IP version 4 (IPv4) addresses in the 232/8 (232.0.0.0 to 232.255.255.255) range are designated as source-specific multicast (SSM) destination addresses and are reserved for use by source-specific applications and protocols. For IP version 6 (IPv6), the address prefix FF3x::/32 is reserved for source-specific multicast use. This document defines an extension to the Internet network service that applies to datagrams sent to SSM addresses and defines the host and router requirements to support this extension.

HIP (Host Identity Protocol) defines the HIP layer located between transport layer and IP layer within a host. By using HIP, the transport and its higher layers of a host use HIT (Host Identity Tag) to identify the correspondent host, while the HIP layer maps HIT into the exact locator. Therefore, the separation between identifier and locator is supported. This standard defines the ¡°LOCATOR¡± parameter, the related message format, the message exchange procedure, and the processing rules for basic network-layer mobility and simple multihoming of a HIP host. For the mobility support, it introduces the ¡°LOCATOR¡± parameter to add a new location information to the HIP UPDATE message. For the multihoming support, it proposes a new scheme to insert one or more location information into the ¡°LOCATOR¡± parameter.
