¿µ¹®³»¿ë¿ä¾à People use English Serif fonts together with Hangul Myungjo-style fonts because this paragraph style gives an overall consistency, visual comfort, and improved readability of a document, cognitively and visually. Therefore, it should be resolved to classify and reorganize the design features of the fonts and other characteristics.
There are already a lot of various fonts classifications based on the topics such as font design history, contemporary design trends, or the own characteristics of the font glyph design in Western Europe, China, Japan, and so on. For example, in English, serif, sans-serif, old style, modern, blackletter, etc. have been studied considerably, and there exists the ISO/IEC 9541-1: 2011 international standard. Japanese font design classification is also contained in the ISO/IEC 9541-1:2011 standard.
However, Hangul fonts are being published without the standard classification, and each font designers or developers has their own, different font glyph design criteria. For instance, Myungjo-style and Gungseo-style fonts have the same glyph design features, but they do not treated as the same font group generally.
First, we made the standard by comparing the design characteristics of the other countries¡¯ fonts in order to extract the criteria that can be used as a delimiter in our own font design. We also categorized some fonts according by the standard of the typeface companies and free fonts provided by Microsoft, Adobe, Naver, etc., and checked if it meets a certain degree of usability of the standard, removal of the displacement phenomenon of classification, or definite function of the delimiter, etc. to explore the possibility as a standard
