This standard specifically focuses on in-compression encryption, where ROI encryption is applied during the video compression process. This approach reduces computational overhead while maintaining video usability.
HEVC/H.265 enhances encoding efficiency by partitioning video frames into smaller units. Accordingly, video ROI encryption and decryption methods are categorized based on the encryption unit, which can be a tile, coding tree unit (CTU), or coding unit (CU). To implement ROI encryption, an object detection algorithm is employed to identify regions of interest, and depending on the encryption unit, the corresponding tiles, CTUs, or CUs are selected for encryption and decryption.
